WELCOME TO THE Liz denton SCHOOL OF DANCE
At the Liz Denton School of Dance pupils discover the joy of dancing through imagination and creativity.
Enjoyment and fun is an important part of our lessons, along with a level of discipline that ensures a high standard of performance is achieved.
Dancing brings an awareness and control of the body that creates a good foundation in posture and co-ordination that will be carried throughout life.
Liz is dedicated to building children’s confidence and helping them achieve their personal best within the dance class. All our classes are personally taught by Liz and all support staff are CRB checked.
Classes are held after school during termtime from 3.30pm. We operate three 12 week terms that shadow the school calendar. Classes are intimate, ensuring each child receives the highest standard of tuition with one to one coaching available on request.
Fees for 12 week courses start from only £7.00 per session. Please contact us for enrolement.
- "Ballet training is a wonderful experience for young children. It enriches their creativity and sense of fantasy. It develops concentration, discipline, and exposes them to a wider musical repertoire. More importantly, it establishes a foundation of confidence, self-esteem, and natural grace."

Liz Denton AISTD
Liz loved dancing from a young age and by the age of 8 she was hooked. She realised that dance was her passion and went on to train professionally at the Northern Ballet School.
After 3 years training Liz graduated with a National Diploma in Professional Dance and her Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) teaching qualifications.
After graduating, she danced professionally in a variety of shows both nationally and abroad.
It has always been Liz's ambition to pass on her knowledge of dance and the experience of the stage to other aspiring dancers. Since 2006 she has successfully taught in a number of dance schools around London and was invited to teach guest workshops at the Aalesund Ballettskole in Norway. She is delighted to welcome you to the Liz Denton School of Dance.
- "Learning to dance from an early age gave me a huge amount of confidence. Ballet has kept me fit, energised and ready for anything!"
miss JENNY, DANCE TEACHERJennifer Yhip, Dip. Dance Education
Miss Jenny trained in RAD classical ballet, Matt Mattox jazz and Graham contemporary at Lewisham College from 2000-2003. On completion of this, she continued to further her skills in commercial and street dance.
In 2010, Miss Jenny embarked on her ISTD teacher training qualifications at the Dance College in Royston where she completed her Diploma in Dance Education in Imperial Ballet and Modern Theatre Dance.
Over the last six years, Miss Jenny has worked at several dance schools, training children for their ISTD graded and major examinations and choreographing for school shows. She has also developed a real passion for teaching dance to very young children who may have never before been in a structured class environment.
Miss Jenny looks forward to joining the Liz Denton School of Dance and to nurturing the students through her own skill and understanding of educating children in the art of dance.
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is an internationally recognised body for dance training and examination. Students will be given the chance, when ready, to take examinations.
Exams are not compulsory but give students something to work towards and are a guideline for how each student is improving. Confidence is achieved by being capable of moving from level to level. Accurate training and technique also enable the student to move on to full-time dance training if appropriate.
Watching Week occurs at the end of each term. Parents are invited to watch a class. It is a chance for the children to show what they have learnt throughout the term and showcase their progress. We request that you do not watch lessons throughout term, as from experience this distracts the pupil’s concentration and flow of the lesson.
Street Dance: Monday 15th July 2019
Ballet: Wed. 17th & Thurs. 18th July 2019
Baby ballet (from 2.5 - 4 years)
Baby ballet is for younger children from 2.5 years to explore movement and expression through creative stories and dance. The classes encourage interaction, co-ordination and body awareness in the children whilst embracing the first basic steps of the ballet class.
pre-school ballet (4 - 6 years)
Pupils move on to a more structured class that focuses on the technique and correct placing of the steps. Stories are still an important part of the lessons, the children have to listen to the music to inspire their creativity.
6 years +
Classes follow the Cecchetti method syllabus. The Cecchetti method is a ballet technique and training system devised by the Italian ballet master and pedagogue Enrico Cecchetti. The Cecchetti method is a strict training system with special concern for anatomy within the confines of classical ballet technique, and seeks to develop the essential characteristics of dance in its students through a rigid training regime. The goal is for the student to learn to dance by studying and internalising the basic principles, in an effort to become self-reliant rather than imitating the movements executed by their teacher. Pupils have the opportunity to take ISTD exams starting with Primary. Exams are not compulsory within the school but give the children a focus to work towards whilst being rewarded for their hard work.
Combining the best of many different genres from commercial dance to Hip hop, from GLEE to Diversity, Street Stepz classes are varied, energetic and most of all fun.
Pupils learn technical steps in a range of sequences and combinations, with a production number taught throughout the term to show on watching week.Street Stepz classes start from 6 years.
